How Do We Treat Gum Disease?

Gum disease is the leading cause of tooth loss in adults. Our experienced team assesses the stage and severity of your condition, then creates a personalised plan - from deep cleaning and root planing to specialist referral for advanced cases.

For early to moderate gum disease, we carry out ultrasonic scaling to remove tartar above and below the gum line, then smooth the root surfaces. This helps the gums reattach and reduces the depth of bacterial pockets.

After initial treatment, regular maintenance appointments are essential to monitor your gum health and prevent recurrence. We will recommend a personalised schedule tailored to your individual needs.

For complex or advanced cases, we work closely with specialist periodontists and can arrange referrals. Our priority is ensuring you receive the appropriate level of care for the best possible outcome.

What are the signs of gum disease?

Bleeding gums when brushing, red or swollen gums, persistent bad breath, receding gums, and loose teeth are all common warning signs. If you notice any of these, book an appointment without delay.

Early-stage gum disease (gingivitis) is fully reversible with professional cleaning and improved home care. Advanced periodontal disease can be managed and stabilised but cannot be completely reversed.

We use local anaesthetic to keep you comfortable during deep cleaning. Most patients experience minimal discomfort and are pleasantly surprised by how gentle the process is.

Brush twice daily with fluoride toothpaste, clean between your teeth daily with interdental brushes or floss, avoid smoking, and attend regular dental check-ups.

Yes. Smoking is one of the most significant risk factors for gum disease. It reduces blood flow to the gums, impairs healing, and makes treatment less effective.
